Experience the Magic of the 5 Points Nutcracker: A Jazz Experience Immerse yourself in a unique retelling of a holiday classic with The 5 Points Nutcracker: A Jazz Experience, directed by Denver's own Larea Edwards and brought to life by the stunning musical direction of Tenia Nelson with support from tan all star band. Prepare for an evening filled with the rich history and vibrant spirit of 5 Points, Denver. Coined "The Harlem of the West," as this performance brings to light the cultural legacy of this historic neighborhood through a blend of dance, music, and storytelling.

Join us at The Savoy Denver to explore the halls and hidden staircases as we unfold the Nutcracker with a jazz twist. The night promises captivating choreography and a unique blend of ballet, swing, breakdance, and contemporary movement, all inspired by the Jazz Age and set to the innovative 1960 score by Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn.
About the Production This year's 5 Points Nutcracker continues LuneAseas' mission to celebrate community and culture through immersive, multidisciplinary art. Audiences will be drawn into the tales of 5 Points' remarkable past as Larea Edwards (the Flobot, Black Music Matters) reimagines classic Nutcracker characters with parallels to real-life local legends, portraying a narrative enriched by the African-American experience. Musical director Tenia Nelson infuses every note with the spirit of jazz, accompanied by an all-star band of local jazz legends. Choreographer Constance Harris (Raw Grooves) infuses Afro beat and infectious fresh energy, and Jamal "Moon" Johnson ( award winning dance artist) brings a dazzling new architecture of movement.
The performance will feature dazzling visuals, dynamic props, and an interactive experience supported by sponsors including the Denver Arts and Venues, the Eulipions Fund, Colorado Health Foundation, Bohemian Foundation, Bonfils-Stanton Foundation, and Colorado Creative Industries.
