Tackling the waitlist crisis

Every day, thousands of older adults sit on waitlists instead of receiving the meals and care they urgently need. Our latest research shows that 1 in 3 Meals on Wheels providers reports having a waitlist. Nearly 46,000 seniors are waiting for nutritious meals and human connection. Some wait months. Some wait years. And some may never get served at all. This isn’t due to a lack of will — it’s due to a lack of resources.

If you haven’t already, take a moment to email your Members of Congress and demand stronger support for Meals on Wheels so no senior is left waiting. No one should have to wonder where their next meal will come from. Together, we can turn waitlists into lifelines.

Ellie Hollander among Forbes’ “50 Over 50”

We’re proud to share that Ellie Hollander, president and CEO of Meals on Wheels America, has been recognized on Forbes’ fifth annual “50 Over 50” list in the Impact category! This well-deserved recognition celebrates Ellie’s unwavering commitment to ensuring every senior in need receives the nutritious meals and social connection they deserve.

At Meals on Wheels America, there’s one core belief that drives everything we do: that all seniors deserve to age with dignity. This belief fuels Ellie’s leadership every single day — and it’s even more urgent than ever, as senior hunger and isolation continue to rise at alarming rates.

We commend “50 Over 50” for spotlighting what we’ve always known to be true: aging should not diminish a person’s worth. As people age, they don’t just deserve compassion and empathy — they deserve reverence and respect.
