A.I. Root Middle School serves as a model for what is best in middle level education today. Sixth, seventh and eighth graders from the enrollment areas of Heritage, Ella Canavan and Blake elementary schools attend Root Middle School.

Root and its sister school Claggett Middle School are based on the "school-within-a-school" concept, with every student being part of a 100-125 member "team" in the seventh and eighth grades. Sixth grade teams consist of 40-50 students. What is the team concept?

Medina middle schools are on the cutting edge of innovative ways to develop middle level students, including foreign language instruction, integrated language arts and a full unified arts program with a sixth grade exploratory period.
