Colwyn Elementary School reopened in September, 2003. We have developed into a community of learners focused on improving student learning and performance through reflective teaching practices. Throughout the day, students participate in a curriculum centered on the Pennsylvania State Standards for Academic Achievement. Each student is assigned to a grade level appropriate homeroom, but teachers often work with each other to team teach, thereby giving our students exposure to different teaching styles. Students experiencing difficulties in academic or social areas have the support of both a guidance counselor and the Instructional Support Team. Students who are academically gifted are invited to participate in the district’s academically talented program and often serve as mentors for their peers.
