The school actively involves students through self-directed and hands-on learning. Students are motivated by making choices among enrichment clusters, units of study and in reading/writing workshops.

One of the main specifications denoted was the need for students to be proficient in computer skills. The school's philosophy is that "students who are comfortable with technology as one resource helping them to reason, solve problems, and work cooperatively will be better prepared for a rapidly changing workplace that will value these skills."
